life a precious gift...

We wake every morning with a start of a new day. But do we really live life to the fullest savoring every moment of our precious life?
I think it's in ourselves to take advantage of our gift of life. I've been very sick the past month thinking I had a very bad case of a bladder infection or worst yet kidney. Well Monday morning I had to rush to the hospital emergency room. Come to find out my prognosis was fibroids in my uterus. And if untreated leads to cancer. I was never one to get annual physicals. If I did go see a doctor,it was only for the flu. I figured what was the point? My over all health was never an issue. I now know when women get to a certain age, regular physicals are very important. A close friend of mine attended a funeral not long ago for a close female friend of his. It turned out to be cervical cancer, they detected it a little too late and she died. She was very young also. It's very sad when we women cannot be bothered to take some personal time for our well being. Why do we have to wait till were dying? Putting things off tomorrow, tomorrow, well tomorrow maybe too late. We need to stop being so caught up in our busy lives and if not think for ourselves, think about our children and family who will be devastated if we were gone. Life
a precious gift from god. We need to
show that we will cherish it...
Because we only get one chance.

should of, could of, would of......

There once was a woman who lived her life for her children and husband.

One day she found herself tired and old and she wondered where did her life go?

She never really accomplished anything for herself. All her dreams diminished over night...

As she stood in her kitchen window, washing up the breakfast dishes, she wondered...

Could she had led her life in another direction? maybe chose a different road?

What could of happened if she didn't meet her husband that night?

And what of became of her if she would of chose to finished her education and went all the way?

Maybe she would of became that great big writer and traveled and seen the world....

As the woman sighed and came back to reality with sadness and regret she realized at least I'm here and I can instill to her children" make your dreams come true", because you can never go back to what of, could of, and should of......

Rainy days...

I am not like most people, "I adore rainy days!"

And yes I should live in Seattle or Oregon or Ireland where it constantly rains.
But unfortunately I don't.

Here I am curling up on my favorite favorite green comfy chair with my beautiful crocheted shawl I just finished, and it's so warm. And I have a hot cup of cocoa.

I'm looking outside and it's raining and it's just beautiful. It's funny just last week it was in the 100's, maybe that's the reason I'm loving the weather.

No I know I have always loved the cooler weather. And I don't understand when people say they get the blues when the weather is gloomy. "go figure"

Now yes there is the bad side to the weather conditions in the rain. Like the morons that don't know how to drive in it. It's like playing bumper cars especially trying to take your kids to school in the morning.

But then again those morons cannot drive to save there life in the normal weather.

It was so nice the other day my husband noticed that we have a new visitor in our back yard it's a beautiful toad. We had one two years ago it grew quite large, and then when summer time came it found a new home else where. I just wonder if this new frog is it's off spring.

Well how nice is this, can you picture this scene? Raining outside and hearing a frog making it's beautiful sounds in my backyard.

Now I recall the last toad we had I was going to capture it and keep it as a pet. But after doing a little research I found out it's chances for survival were not that good so it was better to keep it in it's natural habitat. I discovered it had plenty of food in my back yard to do well.

And I also found out that they hibernate during the winter by burring themselves and then come out in the summer again.

Cappuccino-Fudge Cheesecake

Just a few days after baking this cheesecake my oven caught on fire. I was preheating it to bake some bread rolls. When the oven beeped to let me know it had reached its temperature I walked on over to throw my dough in. That's when my heart stopped beating. Beyond the small glass window in the door a huge orange flame leaped and jumped inside. My first thought was "Oh no, my bread rolls!". I was actually upset that I wasn't going to get to bake them. Then I thought, "Oh no, my oven!". Then finally some logic entered my brain and I thought, "Oh no, my house!" then, "Oh no, my safety!". Luckily by the time I found my phone to call someone the flame had extinguished itself. I'm just so grateful that our oven has a glass window and I realized there was a fire before opening the door and letting in a big gulp of oxygen before I bent over to stick my pan in.

The fire probably started because there was grease on the bottom below the electric heating element. I don't think I'll ever preheat my oven again without checking to make sure it's spotless inside. And making sure I've got a fire extinguisher nearby. At least the fire didn't start while my cheesecake was baking. That would have been AWFUL.

Recipe Rundown
Taste: Like a sweet, sweet, rich chocolate cappuccino. The coffee flavor becomes more pronounced as it sits in the fridge.
Texture: The crust is crunchy, the ganache layer is thick and fudgey, and the cheesecake is rich and smooth.
Ease: I simplified this recipe quite a bit from its original version because I felt that even simplified the cheesecake is beyond divine and indulgent. I've found Medaglia d'oro espresso powder at Whole Foods and King Arthur espresso powder at Sur la Table.
Appearance: Pretty dang impressive. This would look marvelous on any dessert table for any occasion (except maybe a child's birthday party).
Pros: Scrumptious, gourmet dessert that's easy enough to make.
Cons: Not exactly healthy but definitely great for a special treat.
Would I make this again? Yes.

Cappuccino-Fudge Cheesecake
Serves 12
Adapted from Bon Appetit Cookbook
Crust:
1 (9-ounce) box chocolate wafer cookies
1 stick (8 tablespoons, 1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted
Ganache:
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
1 1/4 pounds bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup Kahlua, or other coffee-flavored liqueur
Filling:
4 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, at room temperature
1 1/3 cups sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons instant espresso powder
1 tablespoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons light molasses
4 large eggs
For the crust:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9-inch springform pan with non-stick spray.

In a food processor grind the chocolate wafer cookies until they are fine crumbs. With the motor running, add melted butter and pulse until combined and mixture resembles wet sand. Press mixture evenly into the bottom and up the sides of prepared pan using the bottom of a measuring cup or glass. Bake for 7 minutes.

For the ganache:
Bring whipping cream to a simmer in a large saucepan. Remove from heat and add chopped chocolate and Kahlua. Whisk until chocolate melts and ganache is thick and smooth. Pour 2 cups of ganache over bottom of prepared crust. Freeze crust until ganache is firm, about 30 minutes. Reserve remaining ganache in an airtight container in the fridge.

For the filling:
Using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese and sugar until well combined. Beat in flour, espresso powder, vanilla, and molasses. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until combined.

Pour filling over cold ganache in crust. Place cheesecake on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F until top is brown, puffed, and cracked at edges, and center 2 inches move only slightly when pan is shaken gently, about 1 hour. Transfer cheesecake to cooling rack until completely cooled, about 3 hours. Chill in fridge overnight.

When ready to serve, carefully release cheesecake from springform pan onto a platter or cake stand. Remove remaining ganache from fridge and beat with an electric mixer until lightened in color and pliable, about 3 minutes. Spoon whipped ganache into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe ganache in star dollops around the edge of the cheesecake.

Cheesecake will keep in fridge for up to 4 days.

Fall is here, and I love it!

Well it's my favorite time of the year.

Fall is almost here. You walk into the stores and notice all the costumes and treats. All those scary things, don't you just love it!

This has to be my favorite holiday "Halloween"...
I can't wait to get dressed up this year and take the kiddies out trick or treating. No matter if your young or old this is the time you can let your creative side come out and play.

I know I will! It's time to go out and buy baskets of green apples and start dipping them in that caramel that we love so much.

And let's not forget all those green leaves turning beautiful orange, red, and yellow.

From September or October? As summer turns to fall, foliage emerges and trees transform hills into a patchwork of colors.

Crisp fall days are perfect for leaf-peeping.

"I love fall" And then the days start to get a slight chill in the air, you know the seasons are a changing. I wish I lived in New York I hear they have the perfect weather this time of year.

A Fall Trip To New England.....

fall is the season for true nature lovers.

hiking along back roads, in small towns and on mountains is a splendid way to see glorious, color-changing leaves. You might get lost, but you’ll enjoy doing so.

A trip to:

New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and other New England states are well known for their gorgeous trees. Fall is the time when easygoing greens make way for vibrant shades of orange, red, yellow, brown and even purple. This particular photo was taken in Vermont on a back road near Woodstock. The house may be crumbling, but the trees’ magnificent foliage more than makes up for it. If you’re lucky enough to visit New England in the fall, don’t rely on sight alone. Take in the crisp air, rustling leaves and sweet smell of nature.

And then we have those little traditions that my family does every year we make a trip out to the "Corn mazes"
What fun we have getting lost in the mazes at night with our flash lights, telling spooky stories, taking hay stack rides, oh and don't forget the hot coa-coa with marshmallows!

And then my most favorite things about this time of the season is all the never ending wonderful scary movies....
And no matter what time of the year it is, I watch them anyway.
But when it's October, I kind of get that warm feeling inside and it just seems a little bit more special.

Anyways here's my top 20 flicks you have to see....

Why can we all be fiends?

I have a seven year old daughter, and as I was picking her from school yesterday she came skipping about like little girls do holding onto her friend's hand.

It was so loving and cute. And it got me to thinking, what would the world be like if we were all like children? First of all I think we would all be having more friendship, and not take life too serious.

I think the majority of us get so absorbed in our lives working the 9 to 5 on a daily basis and never really having the time to stop and smell the roses and look for the little bit of beauty that surrounds us.

It's sad also that were so judgmental when it comes to people, do we really give everyone a chance for friendship? Do we judge people by appearances only? What they do for a living? What kind of car they drive, do they have the right color of skin? Do they come from the right side of town? Are they the right religion?

All these factors do they really matter? Are we too judgmental?
I think children should be a great example, they don't take much notice when picking friends. They will be at a park and pretty much ask any child, do you wanna play? Would you be my friend? Do you want to be in my club? Do you want to go to my birthday party?

Wow wouldn't it be wonderful if we all were so bold?
I know in reality, we all can't walk down the street holding onto our friends hands, but think about this: next time your at the public library, or on the subway, or at the bank, or just visiting your local park, and you see a stranger, don't hesitate say hello ask how their day is, give them a compliment.

After a brief conversation, you never know, be so bold and go for it! ask: "would you like to be my friend"? That person may surprise you. And you never know that person may be craving a person to just grab out and make that first move!

Believe me, karma is a great thing, by you throwing some real love into the world, it will all come back to you threefold.
Come on everyone let's put a smile on this busy, hectic, not so nice world we live in.

"Make peace, not war"

Make a friend today!

"Cutting".......a way to be heard"

Its really sad when our young adults don't get enough attention these days where they have to resorting to cutting.

And then we see young teens expressing themselves through the way they dress.
I once was one of those teens that went through many stages of dress, from wanna be gang dress to punk rock, to stoner. I tried it all.

I know I have read some forums explaining that they go through these phases because they want to be heard. I guess I can relate to that a little bit. I know I never resorted to cutting though.

In any case though our teens need attention and why are we not listening?
Are we that absorbed in our work and our careers?

Us parents need to wake up and remember when we were young. And it was pretty bad back then. And I'm referring to my teen days like forty years ago.
I remember at school going into the girls bathroom and everyone in there was either trying to score some drugs or getting high in the bathroom.

And when I think what our children are up against now a days it scares me to death.
And let's not forget the divorce statistics are way more higher now than back in the day.
Where you see more single mothers raising children on their own. It's very hard I know. I was raised by my mother and she was in that same situation.
And believe me I put her through so much worry and sleepless nights and I didn't make her job any easier. I resented her for remarrying. I was very rebellious. I was a teen who thought they knew it all when really I made my whole life a living hell, and everyone else around me. I know for sure now that if my mother would of handled things different with me, the outcome would of been better. I don't throw any blame on her though, parents don't come with a children's manual and you do what you think is right at the time.
I know for a fact though there is a much better chance for children when they have both parents in a house hold, or in their life. As for my personal experience growing up, my father was hardly around I'm still not sure if it was due to my mother not allowing him to be in our lives or my father just too busy with his other life. All I knew was that I really needed my father and I suffered so because he just wasn't there. I felt abandoned and it followed me into womanhood. I had many failed relationships always looking for and needing that fatherly figure, that stability. And then not trusting any man worrying that they would leave also like my father. And of course my mother did have a great effect in that department she raised us thinking all men are never to be trusted.

But as for any child when they don't have that security of both parents, there is definitely problems going to rise. If they have no one to turn to they turn to their peers. And that's about as the blind leading the blind, a child cannot help another child especially when that child has not enough maturity in life to support or give mature advice to.

And that's where more problems occur like alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, and then there's the issue on hand that's referred to cutting.

The first thing that came to mind when I thought about cutting was that movie called 13. That movie really blew me away. I was so shocked when I saw what those young girls were doing, and such an early age. I know I was no angel when I was young, but when I did start to engage in the wild side it wasn't until the later years of high school. I remember when I first entered my first year of middle school I felt like such a nerd noticing most of the girls wearing make up and I never had it on. And now today elementary school most girls look like they're in high school the way they dress, look and act.

Anyways as I was doing my own research about why teens revert to cutting it was really interesting to find out it's like the same as turning to alcohol or drugs. And also in the sense that they were depressed or felt like they were numb inside. Or even hurting inside, and needed some kind of release.

--------------------------------------------------------
"I had thoughts about suicide, but I wouldn't ever have attempted it. [Cutting] was just a way of doing something a lot less severe and a lot less permanent to express what I was feeling. I guess I didn't have any other way. It really scared me, because I was making myself bleed and it freaked me out. I felt that I just had so much pain inside me and so much I was going through that I felt like nobody could see, so I quantified it. That was what it was about for me, I think. It was like, 'This is how bad it is.'" Marlee, 21
--------------------------------------------------------
"Cutting was because I needed to get back into my life. You sink into this place where you can't think or feel, you don't know what you're doing. My brain, subconsciously, would tell me that's what I had to do to get out of the horrible hell I would snap into. Cutting yourself is pain and blood and living, and it's taking away the pain of being this empty person." Claire, 17
--------------------------------------------------------
When a person's pain or depression is very intense, they may become disconnected from their real self (known as a dissociative state) in order to protect themselves from their feelings. They feel so numb and lost that it's as if they are floating above the rest of the world or becoming part of the furniture or drifting away entirely. The physical pain of self-mutilation can snap them back into the real world.
--------------------------------------------------------------
There is so much research that I am undergoing due to my writing of my book. Since my book focusses on teens. I'm becoming to realize how I really didn't have it all that bad growing up. My heart really goes out to all the many young ones out there who are in need of help or love.

And if you are a teen and just by chance happen to read my blog, please feel free to contact me if you need to talk. I will promise to help in any way I can.

I wish I was at the beach...

I really drew my name in the sand at the beach.

And these are my sandy feet...

I'm really trying to endure this intolerable summer here where I live.
It's like 98 degrees today. I hate this heat, These pictures were taken last month in Crescent City CA. When I was on vacation. I think the high there was 63 perfect for me....I can still hear the waves of the ocean and feel the cool sand between my toes. And I miss the sound of the sea lions.

The sea air hits my face with that salty mist
coming off of the ocean
Those crashing waves
look so powerful
as the waves come up the shore fast
they return
just as quickly
sometimes leaving treasure
behind
so many seashells
or seaweed
or driftwood
sometimes life
along the sandy surface
if their lucky
they may hitch a ride
back to their home
once again
back to the sea floor
oh how I love the sea
and the salty air
if I lay here upon the sand
will the crashing waves
pick me up and carry me
forever more....

Our Summer Vacation....

I know I didn't elaborate much on my vacation my family and I took in late July. since I've been going through pictures and video. I actually made a little list of some places I wanted to see that were so-pose to be haunted. Time really didn't allow for too much.  I recalled one stop we made along the way. We stopped in a little town along the northern pacific, a town called crescent city. There's a place running along the hwy 101 deep in the beautiful redwoods. Its like nowhere you've ever seen. Its very mystical, ferns growing everywhere, and the biggest redwoods ever...There has even been reports of the legendary creature Bigfoot . Anyways the road is so pretty to walk, but very creepy at night.  Along the way I seen the most biggest slugs crawling around, pretty though. Its like your walking through the rain-forest and actually you really are there's not that much sunlight peeking through these huge trees. Well at the very end of the road you come to a very beautiful lake, overlooking the woods. Well there is of course a story that is associated with this Walker road. I guess these teens one day decided to come swimming in this water hole and I guess disappeared. Sounds kind of creepy right?
Anyways these are the haunting's that I researched around this coastal town called crescent city. We only visited Walker road, but we didn't encounter any ghosts that day. The night before we did do a little exploring, the night turned out to be a big mistake on our part. We decided to have us a little camp fire by the river, come to find out there were no camp fires allowed. We were told there were posted signs, but since it was at night we didn't see them. Well we were maybe only 5 minutes into our fun when all of a sudden we were embarked with the brightest lights imaginable. The park rangers showed up we were really surprised due to the fact we were vacationing in these same woods two years earlier and we never ran into this much aggravation. There is so much woods around you just assume you could get bye with a little more freedom. Well this wasn't the case that night. Come to find out they're has been quite a bit of trouble in these part of the woods with local people and teens. We were lucky we didn't get sited but they weren't too amused.
Here are the haunting's that have been reported...

Crescent City - Sutter Coast Hospital Old site and new ICU ward - The old site of the hospital always gives passer-bys eerie feeling now a hotel is being constructed right on the site,(that is sure to be haunted) but the new hospital's ICU ward is definitely haunted. A worker at the hospital was in ICU when it was closed down due to lack of patients, so therefore it was empty. They were minding their own business when the patient call light and buzzer went off when they walked to the empty room the buzzer stopped and the buzzer in the room two doors down went off, so they walked back to the nurses station and the buzzer stopped. (The buzzers can only be turned off from the nurse’s station) They thought someone was playing a trick on them but when they investigated the whole place was empty.
Crescent City - Tsunami Lanes - old family owned bowling center was sold. new owners report during remodeling they could here footsteps on wooden walk space behind pin-setters.

Crescent City - Walker Rd. - At the end of Walker Rd. there is an old swimming hole. Around the 1950's a couple of teenagers went there and were never seen again, all their belongings still sitting on the bank of the pond. During the day you can hear laughter and splashing around when no one is in the water. but at night the "feel" of the place is scary and you can hear screams and footsteps all around you.

Apple or Not?

 Apple-Logo

I remember I was so over the moon when I purchased my apple IPad, and don't get me wrong I cannot go anywhere without my iPad. It's become an obsession with me... But the reason for this blog is this:
I wanted to know what your opinion is, Do you like apple products?  or not.
It's been over a year since I've owned my IPad. And I've never been happier, but I have to admit, the one flaw I found was it does not support flash. I was really bothered by that for a while, but I've grown accustomed to not having it and it's no big deal. Now about 5 months ago I really needed a computer, because no matter what you've been told my IPad is no computer. But I must say it comes pretty close for what I do on a daily basis. Before going out and making such an investment I always do a great deal of research,  I pretty much do that with everything. So here I go back into the Apple store O.M.G. Do I really want to purchase one of these computers? The mostinexpensive one I couldn't afford was starting at $ 1000, but they're so pretty and you know how us woman are we want pretty and don't forget that Apple logo, but serious come on, I had to think logical now, do I really need to dish out that kind of cash? Then I asked around alott and did some serious research. I couldn't believe all the negative feedback I was getting. I think maybe it was like 5 out of 95 said go for i,t buy the Apple, but then again they were not the one dishing out all that cash. So in the end I went and purchased a HP pavilion 7.3 laptop at the price of$ 800.00. And for that same price I couldn't even buy the cheapest, slowest Apple computer. In the end I am so happy with my new computer.
I honestly have to admit I'm still so attached to my IPad. A couple of months later my husband purchased an apple 4th generation Ipod for my daughter, so she would leave my Ipad alone,. I think that only solved that issue for a couple of weeks, she still won't leave my Ipad alone.  What can I say, Apple does make great products.
Then recently the Apple IPad 2 came out, and of course I had to go check it out for myself, compared it to mine, yes its a little bit lighter in weight and its got the camera and video, but I use my daughters Ipod for pictures and video, then just email-it to my Ipad and in seconds I'm fixed.
My IPad is A God sent! I'll never forget the day my son found out I wanted one.  He is like so Anti- Apple. He believes anything apple is so overpriced and he thinks only people that have a Lott of money, sipping Starbucks, and rich kids and posers own one. And believe me I'm not any of those.
So there you go everyone is entitled to their opinion. And I would like to know from all you out there, Apple or Not? please let me know...L.O.L. violetschocolatesand books......

Here's a post you might be interested in reading, I found it very interesting....

Microsoft knows the truth - Apple Macs are too expensiveI hate to have to state the obvious here but Apple Macs are too expensive. Seriously. Why on earth would anyone pay the stupidly high asking price of Mr. Jobs’s latest piece of hardware when there are numerous Windows-based alternatives just waiting to be snapped up? Oh yeah, I forgot, some people like the shiny logo.
When Steve Ballmer recently put the boot into Apple pricing of theiPhone, arguing that, “No one’s going to pay $500 more for a logo,” he delivered the first salvo in what looks to more of an open assault on Microsoft’s biggest rival. It looks like pricing is going to be a key part of the company’s new marketing campaign.
TechCrunch has debuted the latest Microsoft advert, which features Lauren, the unfussy laptop-seeker who has $1000 to spend. her first stop is, naturally, the Apple store. I say naturally because it’s a fact of life that many people love the idea of owning an Apple product, maybe because of the name, maybe because of the fact it isn’t Microsoft, or maybe even because they feel that the price tag must mean it’s better.
Unfortunately for Lauren, she could only find one Apple laptop that came within her $1000 budget and that was a tiny 13-inch screen MacBook. This leads Lauren to declare, “I’m just not cool enough to be a Mac person.” So onwards and upwards to a more general electronics retailer where there are plenty of choices well within budget, and all fitting Lauren’s very broad demands.
This ad may be a low blow, but I can’t help thinking that it’s about time Microsoft starting stating the obvious. Apple Macs are way too expensive. And what do you really get for your money? An alternative to Windows. Wow. A minimalist design. Wow. A shiny logo. Wow. Membership of the Steve Jobs fan club. Where do I sign?
I know Apple fanboys will now likely be baying for my blood but if they were to remove their blinkers for just a second they too would realize they’re being taken for a ride by their beloved Apple. There is no need for Macs or any other Apple products to be priced as high as they are, except, of course, in order to increase the company’s already-bulging bank balance.
You may have noticed we’re slap-bang in the middle of a recession, one that some estimate could be as bad as the Great Depression. Apple fanatics may stick with their beloved during economic hardship but I can’t imagine the rest of the population even considering an Apple Macwhen their wallet is empty. So at least some good will come of the credit

Violet what's she like?

I am an Aquarian. I am very creative and artsy. I love to see something and have the challenge of either recreating it,sewing it, or mending it. I love beautiful things and places. I love the ocean, but I don't particularly like to swim.

Violet Today.....

I love rainy days. And beautiful sunsets. I love soft piano music, and sometimes loud music. I can be extreme and I also can be tranquil. I love writing. I have a novel that is in the making. I love to read., when I was small my mother could never get me out of the library. I grew up reading the box-car children books, Little house on the prairie, Beverly Cleary. My favorite author was Judy Blume. I wanted to be a great writer just like her, instead I became a teacher. I have no regrets in life...I'm a true believer that everything happens for a reason, and God allows things for the soul purpose of making each and every one of us grow stronger with each obstacle we challenge. We become stronger and wiser and see things for what they really are. Life would be pretty dull if we were like robots, with no free will. I love all people no matter what color or creed. I love this beautiful world that we live in, it's the bad things that people do that I don't like. If people tried to be a bit more happier the world would be more pleasant. They're are so many places on this huge planet that I would love to see before I die.

I love flowers, thanks mother for naming me after one. I think more people should give more flowers to each other more often, don't wait till they're dead. My grandmother once said that, bring me flowers to me when I'm alive so I can smell they're sweet scent and enjoy them, not when I'm dead.
I even buy flowers for my self once in a while...
Love stories, don't get me started on them, I think I've read so many books on love, and I've seen every love story there is. I know the old classics are the best though. I think the men were more like gentlemen and the woman were more like ladies.
I think love is the best gift you can give to someone. And I know you can't survive without it... If you look in the right places you will find it.

I grew up in the 80's and my parents were from the early 60's. I think with all my challenges, tribulations, and heartache I've learned so much about life and people and myself. I wish some events never took place, but if they never did I wouldn't be the woman I am today, more stronger, not the insecure shy girl that I use to be. I now know where I am going and what I really want in life.

Violet.... yesterday when she was 25

"Here are some of the best quotes from the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" starring Will Smith."Christopher Gardner:
You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period.

Gray Whale in klamath River

When my family and I were on vacation over the summer we witnessed a grey whale that was stuck in the klamath river. Well I received bad news about our poor whale today it finally passed away. I really didn't keep posted on it's condition knowing it wasn't going to be good. I was hoping for the best. But it didn't end up that way.
R.I.P. my good friend...

By JASON DEAREN and JEFF BARNARD, Associated Press

KLAMATH, Calif. (AP) -- Janet Wortman knew something was wrong when she drove by the U.S. Highway 101 bridge across the Klamath River and there were no people leaning over the railing to watch the 45-foot gray whale that had been there for nearly two months.

"She would just swim back and forth right in front of you and at one point go like this, like she was waving at us," recalled Wortman, a member of the Yurok Tribe and a partner in the Requa Inn bed and breakfast overlooking the river. "Silly me, I waved back. It was like she was there to see people. She went back and forth. It was almost like she was going, 'Here I am, you guys. Can you see me?'"

Before dawn Tuesday, the whale died after beaching itself on the north bank of the river in this coastal town of 800 people that is the headquarters of the Yurok Tribe. Scientists who had kept an eye on her since she swam into the river with her calf in late June were by her side.

In the afternoon, a backhoe pulled the whale from the river onto the gravel bank amid tall willows and dug a pit. Tribal members sang a song and said a prayer to send the whale on to the afterlife, said Tribal Chairman Thomas O'Rourke. Then they turned it over to scientists to see if they could determine a cause of death before burying it.

For many, the whale's strange visit to the river recalled a story that Wortman's great-grandmother's cousin, Fannie Flounder, used to tell, which was recounted in the book, "The Inland Whale," by anthropologist Theordora Kroeber.

"She said when the whale is in the river, it means the world is out of balance ... things aren't the way they should be," said Wortman. "Fannie said you all need to get together and pray and dance and beat your feet on the ground and that will tilt the earth back the way it is supposed to be."

O'Rourke said he agreed that the whale's visit meant the world was out of balance, that ecosystems were failing. He said the whale brought together state and federal agencies and the tribe in a way he has never seen.

"It is acts like this that are going to happen if we are going to stabilize the environment," he said.

There was no obvious reason the whale died, or why it sought refuge in the river, instead of joining other gray whales migrating north to feeding grounds off Alaska, said Dawn Goley, professor of zoology at Humboldt State University.

The whale came into the river in late June with its calf, gradually working its way upriver until its favorite haunt was underneath the U.S. Highway 101 bridge.

Rich Mossholder would check on the whale with loads of tourists in his Klamath Jetboats tours.

"I believe this was her destiny," he said. "She decided (she would die here) before she came in the river. The baby went on. After that happened, I thought it would probably be the end for her here."

During July and early August, crowds of people would gather on the bridge, running across, oblivious to speeding traffic, to watch when she swam underneath. Some serenaded the whales with violins and flutes. One person jumped out of a kayak to swim with them.

"It was like a rock concert," said Reweti Wiki, Wortman's son-in-law and a partner in the Requa Inn. He is a Maori from New Zealand and has a traditional whale's tooth tatoo on his arm.

Tanya Sangrey, director of economic development for the Yurok Tribe, said people would talk to the whale from the bridge, like you would talk to a dog, urging it to go back to sea. But it would not.

The calf swam back out to sea on July 23, about the right time for it to wean and go off on its own. But efforts to drive its mother back to sea, including calls of killer whales played upriver, did not persuade it to leave.

It stayed, sometimes feeding on invasive species of clams and snails in the mud of the river bottom, shooting great geysers of air and water out of her blowhole, until it could no longer go on.

"Early on, it was a novel experience," said Wiki. "People were happy and intrigued. But as it dragged on, people became concerned. Eventually, it turned into a tragedy.

my original first blog of the gray whale....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cannot believe that we witnessed a huge whale, trapped on the Klamath River, apparently he'd been there for seven weeks.
Some say he got lost at sea from the ocean. It had its baby with her for some time but then swam back to sea, but the mother whale refused to leave. The water in the river is so shallow. Its chances for survival do not look good. We left for vacation Last Tuesday and noticed the on lookers on the bridge of the Klamath River, but we had no idea that they were whale watching. So we stopped on Sunday almost a week later to witness it for ourselves. It was a sight I will never forget. My heart really goes out to this poor whale and her baby.

KLAMATH, Calif. -- Scientists on Wednesday tried to collect gas samples from the blowhole of a 45-foot gray whale stranded in the Klamath River in Northern California.

The researchers used a funnel on a long pole to capture the samples, which can tell them about the whale's nutritional state, stress level and disease.

The whale remained upstream after weeks spent trying to drive it from the river, said Sarah Wilkin, a coordinator with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.

The mother gray whale and her 15-foot calf entered the river in late June during their northward journey from breeding ground in Baja California to Alaska. The rescue team spotted what they believed to be the calf swimming to sea on July 23, and scientists said the calf was mature enough to survive its journey to Alaska.

The mother whale was still in good condition Wednesday, Wilkin said, but researchers are concerned she won't get enough food in the fresh water.

So far the whale rescue team has tried playing killer whale sounds through speakers mounted on a boat in an effort to drive the 40-ton mammal back toward the Pacific Ocean.

As of now, those efforts have stopped and the rescue team is focusing on the whale's health.

In addition to concerns about food, scientists are studying the whale's skin closely each day, watching for signs of deterioration from the freshwater environment.

The whale has become something of a celebrity in the area, drawing crowds and traffic to a bridge spanning the Klamath in hopes of catching a glimpse of the behemoth.

The California Highway Patrol has begun urging people to avoid the bridge, assigning two officers to the span each day to help with crowds.

A summary of our Oregon vacation

Sonoma was pretty a bit cold though, we had to stop to put pants on Cathryn.
Cathryn does not seem too happy about traveling, she seems really quiet, and that's not like her. And to top it off she came down with a really bad head cold. It's always something when we plan on vacation. Oh well gotta make the most out of it. We left after having a quick bite to eat, now back on the road on our way towards eureka.

Well there's another issue Cathryn just notified us about a pain in her tooth, come to find out that she's had a hole in her tooth for quite some time, I just assumed that her fear of me taking her to the dentist was the reason.
It's 3:03p.m. we just got back on the road after stopping and having a stop at the avenue of the giants, beautiful rain tree forest, as soon as we drove up to an area dense with giant redwoods and ferns, the weirdest phenomena happened.

The hair on my arms stood up and I had an electric current run through my whole body. It was inexperience I have never had before and I'll never probably experience again.
We took a little hike, no sooner we came to an old giant redwood tree hollowed out and stepped inside to hear what sounded like hundreds of bats, I've never heard bats before but I kind of fantasized the scene a little bit for my daughter. My husband did bring over a flashlight and shined it up into the darkness of the top, and we were shocked to see hundreds of baby bats hovering very closely near our heads. We then went for a little hike nearby to a beautiful River, full of baby fish and tad poles. We stuck our feet in and we were amazed to find out that the water was as warm as bath water. Our family dog never had so much fun swimming and retrieving sticks.

well now its about 6:00 and we've arrived in Crescent City, we found a motel and we've checked in for two nights, were all pretty tired and were going to put all our things away and go get something to eat and then Dave wants to go get some liquor and we will go to the famous Walker Road. I've heard about this ghost story about these teenagers that were at some swimming hole and they disappeared never to be found. Tonight my plan is to do some paranormal investigation, can't wait till I find out if I uncover anything, not literally. Wednesday, August,3, 10:52 p.m. well to start with last nights investigation never got under way due to the fact that the only ones that got investigated was us. First of all we got into the back of Dave's truck and he drove us through the woods of Walker Road. It was very dark out there and we had our flashlights shining in the trees it looked pretty scary. Then we drove up to the end of Walker road to the lake and it was so cool and Dave got a couple of logs out and lit them we gathered around the fire it was perfect opened up a couple beers, it was only 5 minutes and the cops drove up and the fun was all over,we had a fire which was prohibited and beer, I'm not going to go into details but Dave almost got arrested. The night was pretty much ruined!

The next day we went out to the beach it was a great day! The weather was very nice Dave and I got a pretty good sun burnt on our faces. The water was so warm it was like bath water. We took a walk up to the lighthouse but it was closing due to the tide was coming in. We went down to the marina to watch the sea lions bath themselves in the sun. The Sea lions sure can get pretty aggressive. There was these fishermen out there cleaning there fish and all these sea gulls were all around the fish, I love being by the sea. We then left and decided to get some lunch shrimp cocktail of course. We took Cathryn down to the beach life jacket of course and she swam till we had to drag her out. Since my daughter is half fish. Afterwards, we decided to try it again this time during the day and traveled down to Walker Road, we had a pretty good walk down to the river no ghosts though. On the way back to the motel we stopped to look at a house for sale, wow! we thought beautiful, how nice what it be to live by the redwoods. We met the guy that lived there and he informed us that the town was not what we thought....

Well it's Thursday morning getting ready to head on out to the Oregon Border to see what kind of trouble we can get into this time....

It's about 5:20 I'm sitting here watching cat play in the water at Rogue River in Oregon, can't believe were in another state! we left this morning to go to Golds Beach and loved the sea it was damn cold though. we stood in a really nice motel...

- Fridays schedule: Friday we went up to bandon to go Crabbing we rented a ring net and we caught so much crab we had a crab feast
we took all our crab to the beach and Dave made a camp fire and we cooked up all our crabs

Saturday we centered out back home we stopped in the safari wild life zoo it was so nice,we got a chance to pet and hold so many wild animals.
were in Oregon still we stopped at a local beach it is so cold and windy!

Sunday were on our way back home boo! Anyways we stopped at the trees of mystery. It was so cool going on the high tram.
we went to the gift shop and got souvineers, to take home. we stopes and seen some elk.
were going to be home so late because we've left so late at 5:04 p.m.

Growing up in the 80's was so cool

Why I love the 80's

I was born in '69, so the most formitive years of my life -- junior high, high school and the beginning of college -- were in the 80s. I can't imagine growing up in a better decade. The music: it was fun, it rocked, there was something for everyone. The selection was just so diverse. Just about every memory I have ties in with some song from the 80s. I still collect 80s music, Music videos didn't suck, they actually told a story or had something to do with the song. I just miss the innocence of the decade. It was all about spending money and partying.
Dodgy 80's fashion - those big shoulder pads, big earrings, slap bands, leggings with those scrunch socks and high top Reeboks, LA Gear, Cross Colours, you name it. Eighties Hairstyles - remember when you used to get out of bed in the morning early so you'd have enough time to tease your permed fringe before school? Eighties TV - , that show the Cosby Show, 80's Music - Madonna, Milli Vanilli, Vanilla Ice, Culture Club, Boy George, Prince, Belinda Carlisle...the 80s i love the era!!! i love the music the clothes and most of all the movies!!! all of my fave actors are from the best 80s movies like MOLLY RINGWALD, ANTHONY MICHEAL HALL, JUDD NELSON, ALLY SHEEDY, EMILIO ESTEVEZ,and ANDREW McCARTHY!!!! even though we have more technology now i still think THE 80S ROCKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the thing i remember most about the 80s was nintindo, mario brothers and duck hunt! friday the 13th movies, alf, mtv, billy idol, i still cant get over the nintindo games though i have all the games on my computer and play em alot, i miss the 80,s so much life was real cool back then everything was fun, man the horror movies they made back then were so funny, looking at them now they are all the same but i cant hate em., carebears! smurfs! goonies!the music of course, man i wish i could go back.

The 80s! where do I start... spray paint/graffiti lettering, fluro clothes, spikey hair, loads of gel, billyidol, cyndi lauper, madonna, talking heads, chewing gum jeans, fisherman rib jerseys, tube skirts, puff skirts, ruffle skirts, pastels, double belts, tape decks, boom boxes, wham, michael jackson - thriller/beat it, jazzercise, whizz kids, The A-team, banana clips, combs, perms, whitney houston, Neighbours, friendship bracelets, purple/pink/lace fingerless gloves, pale/stone/acid wash jeans, matt pink lips...I'm now 42 and am reflecting on the 80s alot these days, it's still has a large presence....music wise, insane!! go the 80s it did rock and I'm glad i was there to experience it and I'm glad it fully hasn't left us yet!...........cool, there's no other word for it! Go and pick up your 80s classic hits on CD, grab a funky mesh t-shirt, studded belt enjoy the 80s too :-)

Baby On Board Signs
The little yellow sign that looked like a yellow warning sign.
Boom Boxes
The "ghetto blaster." The portable radio, with two speakers as a minimum, the heavier and the bigger, the better
Rubik Cube
The toy that was a real pain in the butt to solve, unless you peeled the stickers or pulled it apart.
Skateboarding
Skateboarding really hit a peek in popularity during the 80s, it seemed like everyone was doing it at one point.
Trivial Pursuit
Video Arcades
There are arcades now, but during the 80s, they were the *in* place to hangout.
Wrestling
Although it has made a comeback in recent years, nothing even compares with the classic years of the WWF, and the NWA.

Our family vacation

We just got home last night and wow talk about sunburned!
You know the funny thing is there was hardly any sun out, very over cast.
I think we got wind blown burned is there such a thing? Well no matter we had so much fun, and the weather to me was perfect, high of 63. I know your thinking that's pretty cold but I loved it, especially this time of year. I so did not want to come home, but those motel rooms can get pretty pricey. I can't believe how many pictures I took and video! I spent all day downloading. Oh I already miss the salty air and the sound of the waves of the pacific ocean....

Hwy 101

well were trying to get all our gear together for our family vacation, can't wait to go, we should be leaving on Tuesday,if god let's us...
And yes we do say a little prayer before we go on the road. And yes he does over see what we do, That brings me back to one of our vacations coming back home after a long two week vacation, coming through Redding Ca. on the freeway, when my daughter was only almost two years old and we were in my husbands small truck at the time and a driver on the opposite side of the freeway came way across the open devider and almost missed us head-on by a couple of seconds so yes, I know for a fact god was watching out for us, I wouldn't be writing about it right now.

So I hope to the higher source we have a safe drive considering we will be traveling 1200 miles that's allot of time traveling....

even though we'll be on the road, we will be stopping all along the way sight seeing and taking tons of pictures along the coast.

The summer time is the perfect time to leave when it's like 101 degrees here and like 63 for the high perfect temp. to cool down. I know when your reading this don't hate me, please, I can almost smell the salty sea air...

Mr. Big M.

I remember when I was young growing up around boys all my life really just my cousins. I didn't have a brother and no other siblings until the age of 8 so it was just my cousins. Didn't really matter to me because we were really tight. No body really picked on me, I mean who really would when your surrounded by big tough boys. Any ways, All I knew was it was so much fun! Its funny how when your young you don't really care whats going around you except the bad stuff and the fun stuff. I guess the elders sheltered me from hearing or seeing certain things, which I found out later could of led me to a life of foster homes or worse yet a property of the state. I do remember my parents always fighting and having to hide in the closet with my little sis. It scared her, but me it wasn't so much fear it was just an ordinary thing. I think it was more comforting the fact that my father was there in my life. Because I was more effected more when he wasn't in my life. Well in my earlier years I hanged out with my cousins, I remember my younger cousin he was a year younger than me, he always had cash on him, and he was never greedy with it, now thinking back that wasn't the norm at that age to have that much cash on a child. And then the houses they use to live in were no ordinary homes these were mansions with surveillance cameras and intercom systems in every room. I remember my family was no ordinary next door type if you know what I mean? They were always partying and celebrating. I remember my mom mentioning to me I never wanted for anything when Your father and I  were together. She said he would hold down three jobs to give her what she wanted, wow and look at the way she treated him utterly disgusting! Well he got away still with some sanity. Well I came to find out the real truth about the true life accounts of my childhood and they were nothing to leave to the imagination. My cousins father yes my uncle I will call him big M. for short, was a big shot at the time he was the biggest heroin dealer around in those days, this was back in the mid 70's to mid 80's and I guess my aunt and cousins had a couple of dry cleaning laundry shops that they owned, yes I know you don't live like the rich and famous earning that kind  of income. But you can launder money really easy through businesses like that. So all the time I was hanging out with my cousins My uncle was doing some major deals. And making some major money. They had the cars and the boats everything money could buy. I know my auntie was not using but my uncle was a vision to behold I was always afraid of him, he was always high. I guess he always got high on his own supply. I remember one time we were out in there boat one time and he got me and through me off in the sea, till this day I fear the water. My father never got involved with any of the business he later became a cop, so there you go. My father told me one time we all went to Mexico for the day I was a baby at the time and my uncle got one of my baby bottles and used it for his stash, when they crossed the border he went to retrieve it and my dad almost killed him when he found out. My mother verified the story and mentioned she knew nothing about it, I kind of find that hard to believe what mother doesn't know whats in her baby's bottles? She told me her and my aunt were the original Thelma and Louise and she would boast how she was nicked named Killer, and I don't know if she ever did I hope not! No daughter really wants her mother described as someone dangerous. My mother told me one time of when my aunt and her took a ride out to Sanquintin prison one day when my uncle was away and they did some drug drop for him by the prison so business still continued behind bars. I know for a fact my aunt wasn't to stay in love with my uncle as she saw her boys growing up I guess it was no life for her. I know half her sons followed in their fathers foot steps. My aunt on the other hand finally broke away from it all. My uncle finally went  to the rags as most druggies do. You never hear of a successful drug dealer do you or a one who successfully retires? I think not! Mr. big M is now dead of course not from prison not from murder, but from the heroin... My aunt passed away from health issues just two years ago. No matter what kind of life she led she wanted to be married to the man she fell in love with when she was 16 who knows maybe she thought she could change him or what ever the reason, I truly loved my auntie and she was the best mother to her boys. Now she can rest in peace L.O.L. auntie. I wish I could of wrote all about her adventures when she was alive...

Dancing with the Devil...

DANCING WITH THE DEVIL

This story was told by my Grandma. Although the verasity of this story is questionable, my Grandmother was never one to lie or exaggerate about her life.
It all started one faithful afternoon at school in Mexico. My Grandmother was finishing up her studies when one of her wealthier peers invited her to a party. Being seventeen years old at the time, my Grandmother giddishly accepted the invitation. She rushed home, donned her classiest gown, and headed to the party in the late evening.
Throughout the night she had enjoyed all the luxuries the party had to offer. Out of the clear blue, while she was sitting down sipping her drink (she wouldn't say what it was) a young man approached her, extended his arm, and asked her to dance with him. She studied him intently and was overwhelmed by her luck, as he looked to be the most charmingly handsome man there.
They were up and about as soon as she accepted his offer. As they were waltzing, she couldn't help but notice that there was something a bit odd about him. For one, his dancing was terrible and she was constantly tripping over his feet. She looked down to see what was going wrong and got more than she bargained for.DANCING WITH THE DEVIL

Portruding out of her partner's pant legs were chicken feet. She panicked, let go of his grasp, and stepped back, trying to soak it all in. At first, he didn't know what was wrong. But as soon as he followed her gaze down to his feet, he looked up with a frustrated expression on his face and fled the party.
She pursued him only to find that he had vanished. She went inside to consult one of the local witches about the boy to see if she could help him. After she told the witch about her encounter, the witch smiled and said:
"You know who you were dancing with, right?"
My Grandmother shook her head. Then the witch smiled maniacally and croaked:
"The Devil."
